Tom Roehr

After High School, I went to Cal where I majored in Political Science/Pre-Law. While at Cal, I played on the Soccer team. I graduated in 1964 and started at UC Hastings in San Francisco. I left Hastings and was drafted into the Army in 1967 and after training at Fort Ord and Ft. Sam Houston, I worked at Letterman Army Hospital at the Presidio of San Francisco until my release in 1969.

I returned to Hastings for my final year of Law School and worked for an SF law firm during my final year. I took up the sport of Rugby football at this time and played for a season with the Olympic Club. After passing the bar, I returned to Sacramento to work for the state. A year or so later, I began a 34 year career as a trial lawyer and manager with the Sacramento County Public Defender's Office.

I served several terms on the Board of Governors of California Attorneys for Criminal Justice, taught at advocacy seminars at Stanford and USF Law Schools and for California's Continuing Education of the Bar.

I was married in 1976 and divorced in 1999. Sons Douglas and George both live in Sacramento and we enjoy each other's company often. As of yet there are no daughter's in law or grandchildren.

I have been retired for a few years and have enjoyed making music as a trumpet player with the Sacramento Symphonic Winds under the baton of Dr. Lester Lehr (another SHS grad) and as a Tenor with the Sacramento Choral Society. I also enjoy cheering on the Golden Bears in Berkeley in the Fall (and Rugby in the Spring) and many cultural excursions to the Mondavi Center in Davis.

Activities include snow sports, hiking and backpacking and canoeing and kayaking. Reading, current affairs and politics
