Today's Featured Biography
Lewis E.(Buzz) Nolan
I graduated with a double major, in English and History, from Mississippi State University then served two years in the U.S. Marine Corps, working as editor of the Quantico Sentry base newspaper in Quantico, VA, near Washington, DC. I married my girlfriend from college, Betty Jo Trapp, and later I returned to grad school at Mississippi State, then went to work as chief of the Columbus, MS News Bureau of The Commercial Appeal newspaper of the Scripps-Howard chain. Later I was transferred to the home office in Memphis and was appointed Business Editor. I resigned in 1984 to accept a position as Vice President Communications for Schering-Plough Consumer Operations, international maker and seller of leading brands including Coppertone, Dr. Scholl's Maybelline and several dozen OTC medicines. After 12 years I took early retirement and became Vice President Communications and Government Relations for Guardsmark, Inc., a leading provider of security services then based in Memphis. I am now fully retired at the age of 69 (in 2012), happily married and grandfather of two boys who live in Virginia with their parents. I live in Memphis, TN, with my beautiful wife of 44 years and frequently travel to Gulf Shores, AL, where we own a condo on a beautiful beach on the Gulf of Mexico.
