Today's Featured Biography
Steve Schuster
It has been fun to touch base again with the people I knew at Dobie High School. I went to a couple of the past reunions; but not regularly. I am looking forward to the forty year event next year. If time really does fly by when you're having fun, then I am having an absolute blast!
I grew up in Oklahoma. My folks moved around a lot in my childhood years. The two years at Dobie was the first time I had attended school in the same building two years in a row since 2nd and 3rd grade. So, when we moved to Houston from Tulsa in 1968, I was excited about attending a new school where everyone else would be "new", too. However, in early 1970, my parents separated and were divorced by Graduation Day. My family went separate ways. I took classes at San Jacinto College. I worked part-time and full-time jobs. I traveled around the country for a year. Finally, in 1974, I completed a degree from San Jacinto.
In 1979, I was offered a life-changing career opportunity. I joined the Biomedical Engineering Department at Methodist Hospital. That career lasted almost 28 years. We were responsible for the patient care electronic equipment used in surgery, post-surgery monitoring, and anesthesia. I held a variety of positions from an entry-level technician to a tech-support coordinator to project manager. I went on to finish my undergraduate degree whle working full-time at Methodist. I got to help out with the development of new surgery techniques, equipment, and training programs for nurses and practitioners. It was a fun career.
In 2005, I was elected president of the Houston chapter of the Project Management Institute, a 2,500 member professioanl association for project managers. It was a chance to meet lots of people like me who like to work hard and play hard! I am still involved with them as an advisor to their board of directors.
In 2006, I finally gave in to the desire to retire early. People sit at their desks for years wondering if they will ever retire at all. I have been blessed with the opportunity to try it out for a few years. I have always wanted to establish a consulting business. I am now working on that, too. I could work on it more if being retired weren't so much fun!
My wife, Mary and I have been together for the last sixteen years. We spend time caring for our aging parents. Mary's grown daughter lives in another city. So, we now have time on our hands for ourselves.
I stay pretty busy with consulting projects, volunteer work for no-profits, jam sessions(guitar & singing with some friends), traveling to conferences, trying to learn to hit a golf ball correctly, softball teams for "old men". I have spent the last forty years in the Houston area; in the same house for the last 27 years. I am grateful to a loving God for all that and more!

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
