Today's Featured Biography
Cathy Farmer James
After three years on a musical theatre scholarship at WMU, and eating disorder took me out of the performing realm, and I focused on a career in beauty, landing in NYC. Eating disorder caused near-fatal liver autoimmune and neurotransmitter malfunctions and forced a research endeavor that resolved each "incurable" problem without the suggested deadly drugs.
Transformed to unrecognizable after a few years, my next stint was as print and on-camera spokesperson and celebrity makeup artist for cos. like Max Factor, Maybelline, Revlon, and as Martha Stewarts makeup and hair artist for many years (as well as many other celebs like Sarah J.P., Kate Hudson). Then I became well known and acclaimed by critics in the NYC cabaret scene, doing on-woman shows for six years and writing some ASCAP-showcased songs and special musical material for Revlon at one point.
Then needed to stop everything to write The Truth About Beauty (seven years; highly referenced auto-biographical as well as research-dense how-to and science and resource reference on starkly controversial views that have gained strong scientific momentum in recent years. My book became a word-of-mouth bestseller, selling more each year and in 2007 was chosen out of two hundred of my small publisher's for re-release (40% update to a 400 page book, so that was another two years in solitude) by Simon and Schuster and won a Silver Nautilus award in 2009. It was endorsed by some of the top medical experts in metabolic health (especially the little-known hormone leptin) in the world.
Meantime I conducted my Total Transformation® llfetyle retreats for 12 years (since 2000, to test my methods on real people, becoming increasingly known for their rare biochemical dietary mechanisms and results written in up in numerous dramatic success stories like my own) My events were held in locations around the world (Tuscany, Caribbean, Maui, Costa Rica and at at functional medicine clinics, fertility clinics, equine therapy ranches, top spas as well as Omega Institute most recently).
During this time I produced and aired a PBS pledge special on my book and also appeared in subsequent PBS appearances (here is one on Houston PBS:
Then I began my nationally-syndicated radio show, now in its sixth year on XM/SIRIUS Family Talk 131 (TheKatJamesShow.com) and writing investigative health journalistic articles in magazines like Total Health, Better Nutrition and now, Amazing Wellness (Here's my current article at http://amazingwellnessmag.com/age-in-reverse/
I fill my "free time" (haha) doing keynotes, book signings, private programs, internet and phone based 3-month programs and guesting on other radio shows. I've made a few magazine covers and here are my two most recent covers/stories: http://www.informedbeauty.com/articles/newlife_article.pdf
My website since 1998 is www.InformedBeauty.com

We’ll sing a toast or two
for every loyal son,
Raise high, our Maize and Blue,
until the fight is won.
F-I, F-I-T-E, Fite
Go, Bears, fite with all your might
We’re right, so fite, we’re conquerors tonite.
