Were you ever tempted to embellish the facts on those elementary school essays entitled "How I Spent my Summer Vacation"? Did that same temptation resurface on this new assignment entitled "How I Spent the Last Thirty Years"? It would be fun to mention a Pulitzer Prize or being on the New York Best Seller's list, but the truth is that I'm still a "starving artist", enjoying her craft, supported by a wonderful husband, with little hope of investing a windfall on Wall Street.
Thankfully, I've invested heavily in the lives of others and the dividends have been amazing. Two prime examples are my children. Just looking at them as admirable men is reward enough, but last month my youngest son and his wife brought me an added bonus, my first grandson! He is truly priceless!
As for the rest of the story, I will defer to writers with proven talent, whose words nicely summarize my last thirty years. Dickens said it well when he wrote, "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness... ". Combine that quote with this one from the Apostle Paul in his letter to the Philippians and you have my journey in a nutshell. Paul writes,"Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus".
I look forward to the reunion and the chance to catch up on everyone's lives. Hope to see you soon!
