Today's Featured Biography

Larry Riggins

After high school, I attended the University of Washington and eventually got a Bachelor of Science degree.
I married Leslie Thompson and we had three wonderful children.

I went back to school and got an AA at both Shoreline Community College and Everett Junior College. I then attended the University of Puget Sound and got a Bachelor of Arts in Management and Marketing.

School seemed to never end with continuing education. I went to work at Washington Natural Gas as Marketing and Sales Manager and earned a Certificate of Utility Distribution Engineering from University of Texas, a Certificate for Utility Management from Stone & Webster in New York, and a Certificate of Executive Management from Pacific Lutheran University, in Tacoma.

I was recognized by Time Magazine as “A Future Leader of Tacoma”; received a Gold and Bronze Medal from the Pacific Coast Gas Association in recognition of projects and papers contributing the Natural Gas Industry; received the Paul McCarthy Medal from the American Gas Association; and was recognized by the Executive Sales Association of America for “Sales Performance and Sales Training”.

I transferred from the Gas Company in 1993 to form a new subsidiary, “Washington Energy Services” from which I retired in 1996 after thirty years with the utility and its subsidiaries.

During this time I coached wrestling and soccer for twenty years, went through the chairs of Rotary, volunteered on various committees for the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber of Commerce, was active in United Way, and sat on the Board of Directors for Junior Achievement.

I returned to the workforce in 1997 going to work for Gensco, the Trane HVAC distributor for the six northwest states as Sales and Training Manager for six years. I accepted a position at Airefco, the Carrier HVAC distributor for the northwest as Regional Sales Manager of Washington and Alaska for eleven years and retired January 2012.

I was coaxed out retirement March 2012 and spent two years rebuilding the sales and marketing department back at Washington Energy Services, the company I helped form. I retired for good, March, 2014.

I married Anne Smith in 1996. Her career had taken her to Executive Administrator to the CEO in Nintendo Inc., Weyerhaueser Inc., Quadrant Corporation, and Office Manager for Howard S. Wright Construction Inc. in Seattle, retiring August of 2014.

We have 20 acres on the Methow River, “Tucker’s Island”, in Methow Washington.

We have four children:
Patrick- living in Dallas working as a Computer Business Project Manager for Axon Business Consulting, is married to Helena a Personal Life Coach.

Michael- living in Tacoma working as a Sales Manager of Air Systems Engineering, is married to Heather a Sales Rep for a greeting card company and has two children- Justin and Katlyn.

Lisa- living in Olympia working as a Physical Education Teacher and Coach, is married to Jake- a State Electrical Inspector, and has a daughter- Frankie. Lisa has authored a college curriculum book and has been recognized as Top Physical Education Teacher in Washington twice, and Top Physical Education Teacher in the United States.

Arron- living in Bothell working as Sales Support Manager for Phillips Medical Imagery outside USA Sales, is married to Jennie a professional Nannie, and has a daughter Holiday.

As of most recent, we survived the Carlton Fire but lost 16 acres of timber. Then were hit with three mudslides, and lost a driveway/road by washout. Everything is almost back to normal

Anne keeps busy sewing, gardening, reading, and helping senior citizens. I meanwhile garden, fly fish, woodwork, enjoy 6 old Honda motorcycles, and play a little golf. We both travel, boat, water ski, are active in the Methow Valley Fly Fishing Club and Methow Valley Community Club. Most of all, we enjoy are children and grandchildren.

All as a result of :Good Old Sunny High!
