Today's Featured Biography
Diana Sams Tuck
My story starts and continues in Prosser. Please hold your 'sympathy' for my 'not going anywhere'; I have had a wonderful 'run'. I graduated from CWU with a teaching degree. I taught 4th grade at Whitstran for nine years, 2nd grade at Keene-Riverview for two years, and 9th grade health for one year. I earned my Masters' Degree from WSU along with a Counseling and Guidance Certification. I worked at PHS for six years as the high school counselor. It was a great 'training field' to work with Mr. Schmidt, Mr. Hall, Mr. Yetter, Mr. and Mrs. Bowden, Mr. Callahan, Mr. McDermott, and Mrs. Parton as co-workers. I think I 'held my own' during that time. My sister, Shirley, also gave me additional experience by marrying Mr. Schmidt (that lasted six years). By the time I started at PHS they were divorced and I had a little 'clout' as a social member of the group. I think it was also helpful that I had worked at Bern's Tavern part-time and knew their drink choices. I married Jim Tuck (an East Coast import) in 1985. Jim is a mechanical engineer commuting to the Tri-Cities. Our daughter, Alyssa, was born December 31, 1987. In 1988, I worked part-time as an elementary counselor at Heights Elementary. That gave me the opportunity to be a part-time 'stay at home' mom. That worked so well that I remained part-time for eight years. When Alyssa was entering 3rd grade at Heights, I accepted a full-time elementary counseling job in Grandview. Alyssa has never forgiven me for 'moving' just when she was coming into 'Mom's school'. I retired in 2005. Alyssa graduated from Prosser High School in 2006. She was co-editor of the yearbook, treasurer of the drama club and math team, and (by the way) the Salutatorian of her class - 3.987. Yes, I am very proud of her. (A bit of Prosser trivia: Alyssa received enrichment math tutoring through AP Calculus from Suzanne Bayne Colgren, Doug's niece). Alyssa is finishing up her freshman year at UW in Pre-dentistry. Since retirement, I have had a number of part-time jobs with Yakima Valley Community College: teaching an evening class, advising students in the afternoon, and working with the Adult Basic Education program in the mornings. Occassionally I see some 1967 grads - Juan Plata and I are on a committee with the State Advisory Board of Education. I can't believe that it is our '40th' year from PHS. I know that I have not aged one bit . . . I am looking forward to seeing you in August.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
