Today's Featured Biography
Susan Harris
For the past 32-1/2 years, I have worked at Buckingham Correctional Center and began there as the Secretary to the Assistant Warden before being promoted into Human Resources. I am the Human Resource Manager for BKCC and Rustburg Correctional Unit and enjoy the challenging position very much. I can honestly say there has never been a dull or boring day since I started employment there in 1982.
I was married for approx. 18 years and have three grown sons, Phillip (30), Patric (28), and Christopher (26). Phillip and his wife Jesse blessed me with two beautiful grandchildren - Sean Robert who was born on May 18, 2007,and Annaliese Isibeal was was born on April 8, 2010 (my sister Tammy's birthday). My grandchildren are the sunshine of my life and do their best to keep me young.
On April 18, 2011, my brother Robert, aka Red, was in ICU from just having gastric bypass surgery which was successful in itself, but had a heart attack due to the lack of sufficient blood supply being provided during the surgery which caused dehydration. He went for approx. 13 minutes without oxygen to his brain which caused severe brain trauma/damage. After being moved from UVA Hospital in July 2011, he was taken to Trinity Nursing Home in Farmville where he continues to require 24 hour care. Unfortunately, he has never been able to speak or do anything whatsoever for himself since then. It's truly been the most difficult thing to deal with in my life. I go at a minimum of once per week to see him. Though a lot of the time he doesn't seem to know or acknowledge me, I know there are times he definitely does respond to my voice by moving his head to look at me. I pray that God will perform a miracle and restore his health. I ask that you please keep Robert in your prayers for a miracle as well. Thanks so much.
