William Snizek

I left the big city of Blacksburg the day after I graduated in 1995 and headed to Oklahoma for basic training for the United States Army. I was later stationed at Fort Hood, TX as a member of the 1st Cavalry Division. During my time in the "cav" I performed several different jobs including: Paladin driver, Ammunition Team Chief, and towards the end of my time in the service I was training soldiers for combat and threat detection in an urban environment. I enjoyed my time in the service and my opportunity to travel. My service brought me to 4 different states and dozens of countries during my multiple deployments to the middle east where I was primarily involved in task force recon and things of that nature. Towards the end of 1999, I decided to end my military career as I was not satisfied with the lifestyle. I received many awards and was very close to another promotion, but it was time to move on.

I moved back to Virginia in 1999 with my wife (now my ex-wife). We lived in Matoaca, Virginia from 1999 to 2002. I worked several different jobs including dricing a truck trasnporting equipment for the military and several others. The events of September 11th pushed my company into an unrecoverable hole and they laid off nearly everyone in the beginning of 2002. I started the process of divorcing my wife in 2002, which is extremely lengthy and costly but was something that became necessary. I definitely learned my lesson and realized that I should have never married someone at 17. Fortunately I have learned in life to take responsibility for my actions and to realize that I have no one to blame but myself for the situation I find myself in.

Recently I have decided to go back to college and try to complete my education. This was something I did not value in my youth but today I realize that education will be my ticket to freedom in life. I moved back to Blacksburg over Christmas 2002 to try and restart my life you could say. Possibly in a year or two when I am back on my feet financially where I need to be, I will once again venture out into the world. This time, I am seriously considering moving to California primarily to expeience something new.
