Today's Featured Biography
Alma Benavidez Vera
HELLO fellow classmates!
Its been 45great years and Im looking forward to seeing all of you again soon! It doesnt seem like long ago that we were all cramming into cars and heading to the Cactus Drive Inn for a good movie or to The Big Freezer burger joint in Pharr! Who could forget all the boys being crazy about the stunning Ms. Roberta Moore!?! What great memories!
Heres a little of what Ive been up to since then
During senior year I married my high school boyfriend and had two beautiful children. Homer and Trisha both graduated from PSJA in 1993 and 1995. Years after my divorce, in 1982, I re-connected with and married Trooper Ernesto "Ernie" Alanis from Alamo. In February 1983, Ernie, was killed by a drunk driver while on duty in McAllen.
On the brighter side, I am now married to Joe Vera (my sweetheart) of 33 wonderful years! The best part is that my kids are his kids! Homer and our daughter-in-law Sonya blessed us with two beautiful grandchildren. Ryan Joseph, 16,who shares his birthday with his Popo and our firecracker Reena Jae, 12 . Actually, she's more like a tornado than a firecracker! Reena attends school at the Pharr Oratory Academy and Ryan is at IB academy. Our daughter Trisha still hasn't found her prince charming and lives in McAllen with her beautiful cat "Sally.
Joe and I were involved in 4-H with our kids since they were young. They raised animals for 4-H projects and we all flipped burgers at Livestock Show at the 4-H trailer. We did annual 4-H exchange trips and traveled with more than 15 to 20 very active kids. On our trips, we all stayed with and learned about our "new" 4-H families. Our 2-week trips took us across the United States from Florida, Nashville, North Dakota, Wyoming to Estes Park Colorado ... my personal favorite! For years, Joe and I have talked about getting our grand kids involved and re-starting our journey, but we are a bit slower and older ... not sure how far we would get! We have truly been blessed with our families, friends and the many opportunities that have taken us to beautiful places to travel to and meet new friends. We have an awesome God and a lot to be thankful for.
During my spare time, I have been actively involved with the Hidalgo Chamber of Commerce and BorderFest Association (28 yrs.) and serve on the Board of Directors. My volunteer time has given me the opportunity to server as Chairman for the BorderFest Queens Pageant and BorderFest Arts & Crafts. After taking over Arts & Crafts and leaving the Pageant side, I become more involved in judging pageants throughout the RGV. Several years ago, I was invited to judge a 3 day pageant in Louisiana with an overwhelming 168 very beautiful & talented contestants.
Having been greatly involved with organizing and planning for so many years is what motivates me to help make our Reunion be the best yet! I cant wait to have fun, mingle, unwind and dance like no one is watching! Heres hoping our 40th Reunion will reunite some good ol friends, old memories and the opportunity to make new ones!
Remember save the date and register early.
See you at South Padre Island!
November 2-3 2018
Cheers,
Alma Vera

Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
