I attended Memorial High School for only 1.5 years prior to graduation in 1964. After High School for two years I attended South Texas Jr. College in downtown Houston, now known as University of Houston, Downtown Campus. At age 20, I met and married Jim Matteson. We had two children and now have maintained our marriage for 46 years! Just after high schol, I got a job at Sears, Memorial City. It was a free standing store then, they built the mall around us. We used to sit in the coffee shop and watch them! I worked there for almost four years until I delivered my older son. Back then, there was no such thing as a leave with a guaranteed job after delivery. Matter of fact, Sears would only let you work until you started to show at about 5 months. Then you had to quit your job and if you wanted to come back, you came in and re-applied.
So, I decided to get out and went to work for a plumber, Pat Bauer Plumbing (some of you might remember - in Spring Branch on Long Point) as his office girl. That started me off on doing administrative office work. My second son was born in 1972 with a kidney defect which we dealt with all of his life through two transplants, a hip replacement and about a thousand things. We are still recovering from his death at age 40 in July 2012. I donated him his first kidney replacement in 1987. He was married with a four year old daughter when he died. His wife determined she would take our granddaughter away from us and we have not seen her since a couple of weeks after his funeral. What a complicated tragedy!
I always worked, only to stay home once for two years to look after my son when he was critically ill at age four. By then I had morphed myself into a bookkeeper position. Eventually going to work in Houston for The Gustafson Group Commercial Real Estate where I was introduced to commercial property management. When we moved to Dallas in 1980, I had a great mentor for 10 years who taught me the ropes of property management. I now have my CPM designation and TX Real Estate License and specialize in managing high-rise office properties. I love my work and have no plans on retiring at this time.
My husband worked for Associated Spring, a spring manufacturing company for his entire 42 year career in Houston and Dallas. He retired four years ago. We used to say he had to keep the same job so we had consistent insurance coverage for our son.
I attended one reunion a long time ago for the 15th or 20th year. I just did not know anyone and felt awkward as everyone else did. I have not been to another one. I am so glad however, that those who went to the big %0th had a great time.
Ah, the good old days of black and white. There are 97 pictures of couples and individuals.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
