Sandra Murphree

Go East Young Woman, Go East. That was my motto when I completed my degree at M.D. Anderson Hospital. I headed to New Haven, CT and spent the next 22 years there. I met my first partner and made many friends. Judy died at 42 of lymphoma and I managed to survive the next few years with a lot of support from family and friends. I often went to Houston to visit my mother and grandmother (now in her 90s). On one of those trips, Jeannie Jones Ellis arranged a get together with some women from our class. Julia and I became friends again and she came east to visit. We attended the Gay Games '94 in NYC where I was on the golf team for Connecticut. I was transferred to Philadelphia and Julia joined me after her retirement. We moved to Florida in 1996 and moved my mother across the street in 2002. Julia supervised the building of her house. We like Florida, but miss Texas.
2014 Update: In 2009 I retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida. Three weeks after my mother, Gwen Murphree, passed in August 2011, we moved Julia's mother to St. Augustine, FL to live with us. Edna has settled in to a new routine here. I now teach restorative yoga in St. Augustine and volunteer at Haven Hospice. Check me out at www.restorativeyogateachers.com
