Gary Herra
The last 40 years in a nut-shell:
After graduation I worked off and on at Linde's Sawmill in Custer and then at Whispering Pines sawmill in Tennessee. I worked at Mags auto body in Custer. My first auto body job after Votec Training in Rapid City for auto body was Dean's Ford body shop in Lincoln, Nebraska. I also worked at Whispering Pines body shop in Tennessee. I had my own body shop in Custer for about 5 years and then Jack's body shop in Dalores, Colorado. I sold religious books for about 6 months and found out I'm not a salesperson.
I taught freshman math, wood shop, and auto body at Whispering Pines private boarding school.
For the last 18 years I've worked in a wood shop,"Summit Ridge Wood Design", building cabinets, furniture almost anything made out of wood. The last 14 years I have been making mostly caskets.
In 1974 I was baptized into the Seventh Day Adventist Church of which I am still a member. I have worked with our Church youth club called Pathfinder. I have taught youth classes and at church for 25 years and helped with youth Mission trips to Mexico for the past 8 which were always the highlight of my year. I was inducted into the denominational Pathfinder Hall of Fame 3 years ago.
I married Bonnie in 1981, and have 3 step children Jamin, Josh and Suzzanne. I was divorced in 1997.
I spend every chance I get outdoors, camping, canoeing and hiking.
