Today's Featured Biography
Randall Evans
After graduating from EAHS, I went to Lehigh University, graduating in 1967 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. I then went to Vietnam for a year and a half as a civilian working on military communications systems, also working in Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand. I then went on to Germany for a couple of months, and then to Korea for two years where I was the station manager at a satellite earth station used for international communications. While in Korea I met my future wife, Suk Chung. However, I was transferred to Germany again before we got married but I returned to Korea about a year later and we got married over Christmas, 1972.
I returned to Germany while my wife got her passport and then she left Korea to join me in the States a few months later. We then went to England for 6 months where I worked on the design and installation of a microwave communications system throughout Europe. I then returned to the States to attend the University of Utah to get my MBA. While in Utah our first child, David, was born in 1974. After graduation we went to Long Island, NY for a year working and attending Brooklyn Polytechnic University for my MSEE and then moved on to San Jose, California where we still reside.
While working in California, I had some overseas assignments in Indonesia (9 months) and Egypt (4 years), plus numerous trips to Europe, Asia, Africa, and Central America. In between the trips, our second child, Jennifer, was born in 1978.
Our assignment in Egypt was the first time we had kids with us. I worked on communication systems for Amoco Oil Company throughout Egypt during the years 1981 through 1984. The family really enjoyed it and the kids attended Cairo American College, www.cacegypt.org, which was really a great school with an average class size of 18 kids. All the upper crust Egyptian families sent their kids there as well as the American Embassy and other expatriates. It was a very close-knit community of expats.
In the last few years I worked at several startups, which was interesting but grueling at times. One of the products I developed was the predecessor to WiMax which Intel Corporation bought. I am now working at Space Systems Loral, www.ssloral.com, as a Payload Sector Director, responsible for the design, development, and launch of communication satellites; e.g., Dish Network, Direct TV, Sirus Radio, etc. Interesting but I am planning on retiring at the end of this year.
I have two grandkids, Ethan and Adam, born in 2006 and 2008 respectively, with a third on the way, Olivia, in December. I am looking forward to spending more time with the grandkids after retirement.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
