Today's Featured Biography
Laurel Hettinger Fedak
After high school, I did a number of things. It's easier to say what I haven't done than what I have. After spending 10 years as a respiratory therapist, I finally finished college and went right to The Dickinson School of Law, graduating in 2001. Luckily, I passed the bar exam on the first try and went into private practice with my father in Allentown.
I left private practice in 2005 and obtained a masters in Library Science. Don't ask me why I thought this would be a good idea. After working briefly as a librarian for the State of Pennsylvania, I was hired by MidPenn Legal Services as a grantwriter, something I had never done. As a benefit, I also got to practice law and mainly did housing law and Social Security disability. But I found I was good at grant writing and that I loved it too.
Two years later, I was laid off due to the economy and its impact on our funding (no reflection on my grantwriting skills). I am currently consulting with the Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania.
My daughter, now Andrea Miller, is finishing up her college education at Cedar Crest College as an education major. She has three kids, Allana is her youngest.
My son is married, attending college getting a degree in computer science with an emphasis on video game development. His wife, Christina, is also in college for public health administration. Their daughter is Adrianna.
Joe Fedak and I got married three years after high school and are still married. Lord knows why he puts up with me!
