Today's Featured Biography

Philbert Brooks

After graduating I moved to Mass. and worked for a year. Disliking city life I returned to Groveton. In 1956 I went to work at Groveton Papers and married Theresa. Between 1957 and 1961 I built a home and became a father to Brenda & Rhonda. My first interest was hunting and fishing and my first golden retriever. This led to the raising of golden retrievers. I became interested in boat racing. I built skippers - rebuilt motors and raced in Vt. & NY. During the winter months I coached beginners basketball and organized a town team for several years. In the 60's I built a cottage at Maidstone which I enjoyed for 20 years. I built a shop and owned Brooks Sales & Service - a franchised Evinrude - Motorski dealership until 1978. I taught small engine repairs to 7th & 8th graders. In the 80's I enjoyed touring NE and Canada on a motorcycle. I did spring vacations in NC, FLA and the Caribbean. I fished and hunted in Canada and Maine for many years. For the past 10-12 years I have been a beekeeper. I maintain 12 or more hives yearly at local orchards and farms. Since retirement in 1998 I enjoy driving and showing my original 64 Chevy Impala in car shows, woodworking projects and coin collecting. I have two sons-in-law and four grandchildren.
