Today's Featured Biography
Mike Huska
From North Buncombe High School, I headed to Raleigh to get a degree in computer science (big surprise, right?) from North Carolina State University. While at school, I became very active in a co-ed service fraternity (Alpha Phi Omega) that really “brought me out of my shell”. I ran several projects for the fraternity and even held a position of office. To pay for school, I was co-oping every other semester and working at various local companies along with running a small D.J. service with Kelly McCurry. Going to school every other semester required me to attend summer school so that I could still graduate in 1989.
After graduating, I went to work for a company that I co-oped for that wrote software for automated warehouses. After installing systems all over the country for three and half years, I left the company to go into consulting. Having moved so much before I went to high school, I have never left the Raleigh area since I arrived.
During this time, I joined the Raleigh Jaycees to continue doing service work for the community. This was a great experience as it taught me to organize and run very large projects, I sat on the board and held many different positions of office, and it was a great place to meet people. As God would have it, I was introduced to my wife Denise through the Jaycees. After dating her for four and half years, I asked her to marry me at a Christmas party held at our house with over 40 of our Jaycee friends in attendance (everyone was surprised as I was able to keep it a secret from every person).
We have since had two beautiful children (who are now both teenagers). I manage to keep busy with them along with keeping up a lake house that we rent.
As for work, I took a Chief Technology Officer position for Incential software. We managed to get the company up to 25 people before selling it to IMS Health (who I continue to work for now).
