I left Moberly in the summer of 1966 to begin my quest at the University of Missouri where I ultimately became "over degreed" in the ensuing 10 years: BA Zoology 1970, MA Microbiology 1972, and M.D. 1976. I also attained an MA in Bioethics more recently from Georgetown University in 2008. I completed training in internal medicine at the University of Missouri in 1980 and returned to Moberly where I raised my family and practiced as a general internist and geriatrician for nearly twenty years. During my years in practice I was also medical director for a large multi-specialty clinic (Woodland Internists Group, which then became Woodland Clinic) as well as a hospital based wellness, cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation center. I was also very involved in long term care and home hospice in Moberly. These were good years. In 1995 I was recruited back to the faculty of the MU School of Medicine and it was at mid career that I made another life changing decision -- to pursue a long standing academic passion to learn, teach, and do bioethics. I applied and was selected for a two-year Dept. of HHS primary care research fellowship at the Center for Clinical Bioethics at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., where I trained in ethics and did research in end of life care at the Lombardi Cancer Center, also at Georgetown. I spent two years there - an incredible time in my life, not only professionally, but also personally, because my soon to be second wife, Karen Edison, also a physician (dermatology), returned to MU with me in September 2001. I have continued to see patients and teach both ethics and internal medicine at the University of Missouri but have also developed and directed the MU Center for Health Ethics since 2001. I was Chair of the Department of Medicine at the University of Missouri 2009-2016. I am now Professor Emeritus of Medicine and continue to co-direct the Center for Health Ethics at MU. Karen is chair of the Department of Dermatology, directs the MU Center for Health Policy, and is also medical director of the Missouri Telehealth Network. Our kids are doing great — daughter Amy lives in St. Louis with her sons Charley and Joey; she is a Physician's Assistant (PA) as well as a registered dietitian with an MS in nutritional science. Son Brian and wife Kailey live in Columbia with their sons Baron, Braden, and Bretton and daughter Ainsley. Brian is the operations manager for Ultramax Sports and owns Summit Fitness in Columbia. I'm thankful that I am still healthy and active; Karen and I love to bike, ski, hike, and travel. We love living in Columbia and are blessed by being part of an amazing profession, while enjoying an amazingly wonderful life having our kids and grand kids nearby.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
