Today's Featured Biography
Susan Donnelly Edwards
After graduating h.s. I attented cosmetology school in Kansas and received my license in Nov. 1990 and worked in a salon for 2 years until I had my first child. Much to my surprise, he was born with a hereditary genetic syndrome so I quit working to give him my all. I decided to go to college and attended JCCC to pursue a nursing degree. I found out that I was pregnant again while attending college and received my A.A. degree and had my second son whom was also born with the same genetic syndrome. To make a long story short, our family was tested for the chromosome abnormality and found it to be on my Dad's side and he was adopted. Quite a shock! For those of you that know my brother, Mike, he also has a daughter with the same syndrome. However, on the positive side, we feel very blessed and our children are great kids and have taught us so much. They have given my life a challenge, but nothing I couldn't handle. If anything, they have made me a stronger and better person.
After being together for 12 years, my son's father and I split up in 2001 and shortly thereafter I met a terrific guy who I married in April of 2005. For obvious reasons, we chose not to take the chance to have any children together. He loves my boys like they are his own. And they are quite fond of him, too. We are a very happy family. We just bought a new home here in Lenexa last April and it is keeping us quite busy. The Shawnee Mission school district has been excellent for my children and we really like Lenexa so decided to continue to reside here. I do not work outside of the home. My youngest son, Kalib, just went through a huge spinal fusion surgery last Fall to correct a severe case of scoliosis. He was hospitalized for 5 months so my life was dedicated to him and living in the hospital with him. We had the best pediatric orthopedic surgeon so with his expertise, Kalib's incredible strength and the grace of God Kalib came through with flying colors and has a beautiful new back. Anyhow, life is good. I've learned to never take anything for granted and just live one day at a time and don't sweat the small things. Can't wait to see everyone at our 20 year reunion!
