Today's Featured Biography
Darren Bax
After leaving HHS and the big town of Jeff City, I attended SMSU (Now MSU……finally) and studied Broadcast Journalism. After five years of consuming malted hops, I parlayed my degree into a bartending gig in St. Louis while I worked on becoming the next Chris Berman and Dan Patrick of ESPN. After it became painfully obvious this may not happen, as I was not ready to move to Podunk, Wyoming for the next five years.
After a few more years of “finding myself,” I went back to school and received a Masters in Corporate & Industrial Communication from Lindenwood University. That led to a job in the technology industry with various companies like Cisco Systems and Hewlett-Packard. I lived in St. Louis until 2004 when I had the opportunity to move to Chicago. I currently work for software company Oracle and our office offers a breathtaking view of the city skyline and Lake Michigan from our perch on the 45th floor of the Sears Tower.
The move to Chicago was a great move for me as I already had family and friends in the area………..also met a great group of new friends as well as a wonderful girl named Lisa I’ve been dating. For those of you who’ve never been, Chicago offers no shortage of sporting events, great music, stunning architecture, world famous museums, and indigestion from Old Style Beer, Chicago Style Hot Dogs, and Deep Dish Pizza. I spend my free time playing guitar, running, co-ed football/softball, seeing live music, and lounging at North Avenue Beach during the summer. I even played my first guitar/singing gig earlier this summer to an audience of 75 attentive……but highly inebriated individuals. I’ve also been training for the Chicago Marathon to be held October 7th. A marathon definitely cuts into your social life so I urge those interested in training for a marathon, get ready to go to bed at 10:00 on a weekend night.
I’m looking forward to getting back to Jefferson City in October as I only get back a few times a year. It’s been definitely interesting to read what many of you have been doing the past 20 years.
