Today's Featured Biography
Andrea Foster Burchard
After graduation, I went to the University of Minnesota majoring in Political Science. After I completed my B.A. and thinking about my life ahead, a friend joined the Peace Corp, prompting me to take my courage in my hand and join up too. Even though my friend ended up not going because of health issues, I landed in Ica, Peru for two years working in a slum area with a nurse and running a medical clinic. Having never been away from home, it was an eye-opening adventure, and I met so many new people, ate new and interesting foods, and learned Spanish. I also met my husband, Rod, in Peru; he was also a Peace Corps volunteer.
Rod returned to the U.S. one year before I did and started his Ph.D. in cultural anthropology at Indiana University. When it came time for the field work for his dissertation, we returned to Peru, where we lived with the indigenous people at 10,000 ft in the highlands and the jungle. We were there for a year and a half experiencing village life as you could never imagine.
When we returned to the US, Rod got an assistant professorship in Anthropology at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and instead of staying the 2 years we intended, we ended up staying 35 years!
When my youngest son was two years old, I went back to university getting my Bachelor of Commerce degree, and I worked for twenty years as an Investment Advisor (stockbroker) for a major brokerage firm in Canada.
I retired in 2005, and we packed up house one more time, and moved to Niagara-on-the-Lake in Ontario, Canada to live close to my oldest son, John, and his wife and 2 girls who live in Cleveland, Ohio. My youngest son, Paul, lives in Bangkok, Thailand, and teaches english studies at an international school. He married Noon, a Thai girl, in 2007 and they are expecting their first child (a boy) in October 2009.
My interests include travelling , different cultures, the stock market and business, spending time with family, gourmet food, and visiting the family cabin in Nevis, MN once a year.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
