Karen May Basner

I married Tom Basner in 1970, shortly after graduation. We have 3 grown children and 8 grandchildren. We continue to live in Birch Run.

I was a stay-at-home mom until the kids were all in school, then I went to Great Lakes Junior College and earned an Associates Degree. After graduating from there, I began working at Saginaw General Hospital (now part of Covenant Healthcare) as a certified pharmacy technician. I early retired from there after 20 years of service.

Currently I am working with McLaren Visiting Nurses as a flu clinic clerk. Its a part time temporary job, which is great for me.

In 1992, my dream of owning a horse farm finally happened. I started a miniature horse farm here in Birch Run. My senior stallion is a national champion halter horse. I have sold horses across the country and as far away as the Netherlands. I also have a riding horse and am taking riding lessons with a reining instructor.

In addition to the horses, we love to travel with our 5th wheel. We have enjoyed trips to Arizona, Texas and Florida, and also camping trips here in Michigan.
