Today's Featured Biography

Laura Wilson La Point

After early Graduation; Jan 1976, I attended Mt. Vernon College, in Georgetown as my well-intentioned mother pushed upon me,the fact
that my Grandmother Hazel Struble, 4-Star
Adm. Struble's wife; had saved the school's grounds from the Navy Procurement threatened
during WWII, and being a friends with a
founder; Emily Post and to Eleanor Roosevelt.
Mt. Vernon would definitely accept me from B.C.C. in the middle of a class that boasted grads off to M.I.T., Vassar, Brown, Yale,
Harvard, Princeton! So from Feb-June '76 I shared the halls, cigs, mutual friends, and acquaintances, as well as awesome party
invits with our current Ca.Govs Wife: M.S.,
then current Pres.'s daughter S.F. & friend-
millionaire J.C. whom I still miss talking
to, where are you Jorge? Portugal had me for
5 mths. with N.A.T.O. USN Capt.Dad and Mom,
their exotic misbehaving-prize-poodle.
Miserable and missing my new fastlane-
lifestyle & friends, I partied so much,
and stayed out so early one morning that Dad
feared I would ruin his fine reputation,(for
which his lack of tact was enough to do his
own damage thank-you very much) I was sent
me home via the next available U.S.A.bound
plane, $29 in cash and a $100 check drawn on
a WASH. D.C. Bank. Still stonedrunk, crying,
angry & afraid ; and was expected to
NOT "bother my Grandparents or family" and
survive on my own, without training in $ or
credit practices, the worst winter D.C. had
seen in 100 yrs! I danced away as I enjoyed
my freedom from authority, finding all
the "A" parties, sought confidence, and
reaped some oblivion, had multitudes of
opportunities, few of which I SHOULD have
even desired; attracting the wrong kind of
attention, I finally listened to friend; Stan,
thank you) who told me to get back in line
with my family! I learned how to Latin-Hustle
from the best, my friend BOB Wtz, who asked
me to compete with him in Toronto, and we could have won...but I was soo afraid of
everything really...Even when gone back with
my family for a while in New York, went back
to college did a commercial with Rocky
Graziano, and had all sorts of interesting
and other demeaning unsavory opportunities I
didn't take; bad ones, that I was fortunately afraid of...I didn't take...especially after
the family moved without my brother and I
back to CA, I stayed because I was under
contract with a Jewelry Manufacturer as their
Rep. Throughout those years allot of people
helped me, like Bret Zarro, a real friend and
awesomely talented man, but still I allowed
myself to be misused and thought I was having
fun. Refusing to be, and untrained getting over on people so instead I was "gotten over on" but I still did survive, was asked to
open up an Art Galleries in Soho with Hike
Malikote, sing in a few bands in N.Y., move
with someone else I cared for to Estes Park,
Colorado, but I was still too afraid of failing to "go for it" in anyway meaningful.
My Fine Jewelry & Fine Restaurant and entertainment business experience building,
people saw a genuinely loving and caring
person. Adventurous, naive, optimistic and
hopeful; so when in 1980 I flew out for a L.A. vacation, and was asked to be my older
cousin's Personal Manager, I didn't realize
she really may have meant it! After years as
a Christian youth group leader multitudes of
years being discipline-ED as a "Military-
Brat" and a few as the 1st Female Midshipman
Naval Sea Cadet at the D.C. Navy Yard, I got
into no-luck situations, and fear of failure
gripped me again, until I admitted failure,
asked for help from my Mom, who flew me back
to L.A. I worked, got an apt., met and married a simple man, had 3 beautiful babes
and got gung-ho back into the Holy Spirit!
Fast forward; past (2)abusive ex's,
who I had-the-faith-that-God-would-heal-
against-their-will; Alanon, A.A. & N.A.
birthed me back into being a fully formed,
lovely, human being, who appreciates the
simple things! So, I went back to school in
2001, graduated with Honors as a Therapeutic
Massage Practitioner; now a "Pain Relief
Specialist" helping people heal; body, mind &
spirit, recovering from the pain developed
from their past. Today my focus is directed
into being a healer. I have finally found my
TRUE LOVE; God, my husband, Ed, a Brilliant
Computer Network Specialist/Mechanical
Innovator and my (now grown) three children;
My eldest, a 24 yr old Mommy & talented
Professional Native American Flutist her Life-
Partner; Carlos Reynosa, and the two have
presented me with two gorgeous grandsons;
almost 4yrs. and the newest; 6mts.! 22 yr old
daughter's a College-girl-in-Love-in-So.Cal.
and my only son is either working by a
mountain or by a beach, and more-handsome-
than-any-of-the-guys-I-EVER-was-with, and I
have excellent taste, I have found some of my
lost friends and patrons of the Arts and
reconnected, like to find some more of youz,
so that's it in a short story, written with
love and gratefulness by Sparrow, L.C.M.T.
& /H.H.P.
