Debora Rogers Matson

Well I have been married for almost 4 yrs. to my bestfriend Gary. He is my life other than the kids. We are a very active family. We all love sports, so summer time can get crazy. But I wouldn't change it for the world. I coach boys baseball and love it. I coached girls softball for 1 yr and hated it. Only because girls today just don't play softball like we did when I was a kid. The 1st time a girl told me she was not going to slide because then she would get dirty I knew that this wasn't for me. They would put on makeup and fix their hair all nice, it was crazy. So I just stick to coaching the boys and I also coach adult coed softball in Turner. It's alot of fun. We are pretty good to I might add. I will probably play softball til I can't walk any more. I have fun teaching the kids that it's not always about winning. It's about learning how to work as a team and learning new things about yourself and your team. I always try to build relatioships with the kids also. I have found out that if they know you care about them truly and respect them you will get respect in return and that makes it alot easier to coach them. I hound them all about their grades and how they treat each other and I even go as far as how they treat their parents. I'm a very fair but firm coach. The boys know I love to have fun with them but also when it's time to be serious then they better listen and do what I say or the other coach. Or they could find theirselves on the bench. I teach them that we win as a team and loose as a team. If 1 makes a mistake, then the whole team makes a mistake. It's all about team work. I encourage them to encourage each other and be there for each other not against each other. I teach them about baseball but I think I teach more on how to be a better person. I tell them I want to see them succeed at baseball, but mainly at life. I say you only live once, so be the best person you can be and have some fun also. I will leave you with 3 words I live by every day of my life, and that is Live, Laugh, and Love. If you can live by those words and do those things, how can you not live a life full of happiness!!!
