After graduation from DDE, I attended Northern Illinois University and graduated with a BS in Special Education. In August, 1971, I married Rick Strohm (class of 67) and we moved to Phoenix, AZ. I received my Masters in Special Education from the University of Arizona and taught special education in the public school system in both Phoenix and Tucson for over 10 years, until our son, Christian Edward was born in 1982. Rick and I divorced in 1986 and amicably raised our son and have merged our two families to this day- spending holidays and special events together.
I returned to special education after Christian was in preschool and began teaching at the New Way Learning Academy, a private school for children, grades k-12 with dyslexia. I became the Head of Spchool 18 years ago and just this year moved into a new role as Director Emeritus, supporting the new leadership team and working on special projects.
I have been happily married to Bob for 19 years and we enjoy fixing up our home (Bob is an architect) and traveling, especially to Tuscany and to visit Christian in Berkeley, CA where he is gainfully employed after completing his degree at Cal/Berkeley.
I keep in shape (and maintain my sanity) by working out at the gym, practicing yoga and taking power walks.
One of my greatest joys in life is the close friendships I have maintained with Lynne (Zakhar) Nelson, Kathy Benjamin, and Debbie (Anderson) Eggert Costello. We make sure we have a "girl's trip" every year and talk on the phone frequently. Bob says he never hears me laugh so much as I do during one of these phone conversations!
It all comes down to this simple truth- that the love of your friends and family is the most important thing in life.
I am sorry that work commitments keep me from attending this 45th reunion, but I send my best and hope you all have a womderful time strolling memory lane while you can still remember the "good ole days"!
