Zarqa Javed

Although I didn't graduate with the Class of 1986 (we moved to New York senior year) I still consider myself a part of this class. This is a great site and a great chance to catch up on old old friends.

So I graduated from high school in Eastport New York and then went to college at SUNY Stony Brook where I had a double major in biology and English and graduated in 1990. I moved out to Los Angeles immediately after graduation and found my first job working in a medical lab in Santa Monica. In 1992, I moved to Houston where I lived for almost a year working at a research lab at Baylor College of Medicine. Moved back to LA around 1993 and lived there until 1997, working in a research lab at Childrens Hospital and finally going to graduate school at UCLA. I found out quickly that graduate work in biology was not for me and dropped out of the PhD program. I escaped back to my parents in New York and worked again in a research lab in Rockefeller University in Manhattan. I met my future husband over the internet. He was in Seattle so guess where I moved next. We were married in 1999. I finally decided to give up on science and went to library school, getting my MLIS in 2002. I'm now working as a Browse Developer at Amazon.com in Seattle. We were pregnant last year but sadly that pregnancy ended with a stillbirth in September 2004. We're still trying!

So that's my long-winded update! Don't know if I can make it to the reunion, but it's great keeping touch like this. :)
