Mary Mattos

After graduation I put myself through SRJC Legal Secretary Program. I worked as a live-in housekeeper/nanny for an older gentleman and his daughter who was 5 at the time. A couple of years later I moved into the unit in back with her older sister and helped care for her after diabetes had gotten to the point where she had to start giving herself shots. I am still connected with these two sisters. The younger girl who I cared for now has 4 children of her own.

I graduated from SRJC with my AA and Legal Secetary Certificate in June of 1983.

I got married in February of 1983 and had a beautiful daughter. Divorced now but blessed with two beautiful grandchildren, Hunter age 4 and Krystina age 2. My daughter, Fawn is now almost 25 years old and expecting her 3rd child in October.

I have a wonderful person in my life now whom I have been seeing for a little over 3 years and I can honestly say I have never been happier.

I've been working in the same profession that I studied for since April of 1984, a little over 24 years... Legal. I started working for sole practitioners in Santa Rosa. I have done a little bit of every type of law. I am now working at the Marin County Public Defender's office as a Legal Secretary II and have been there for almost 8 years. In 2006 I bought my second home and am renting out my first home.

I have been told that I'm a surviver because no matter what I am struggling with I get through it with the help of God. He has always been there for me.

I have two other business that I am currently working on growing: 1) is my partylite business as a consultant selling candles and candle accessories and 2) is a leadership business which a friend brought me into a little over a year ago. What a growth experience this one is for me. Also I have maintained my Notary Commission for a little over 20 years.
