Today's Featured Biography
Tom Levin
I want you to know that my year in Alaska really meant a lot to me and I’ d like to take the opportunity to thank you all for taking care of me at Palmer High. Below a few words about my life since I left Palmer.
See you soon at the reunion!
Upon returning to Sweden I finished my last year of high school. I then served with the Mounted Royal Guard in Stockholm as part of my compulsory military service for 12 months. Military life did not suit me nor did I suit military life….however it was great to learn how to ride a horse.
Afterward I took off to France as I figured this was the best way to learn French. My first job was working in a hotel but I mostly got to talk to tourists so I found a job as a stone mason instead. Working with only locals it was impossible not to learn French. Though I must admit I’m now in the process of forgetting it.
I returned to Sweden and started studying a Bachelor in International Marketing at the University of Uppsala. In my 3rd year I was fortunate enough to receive a stipend from the university to study in Australia for six months. In Sydney I bought my first guitar and with little knowledge of how to play I started to experiment and write my own songs. I completed my degree when I arrived back in Sweden and formed my first band Tennis.
My first job was with EF Education working in marketing. It was during my time at EF that my band started to make a name for itself and our song “Shyway” became a top ten hit in Sweden. After two years within EF Education I changed job and became responsible for marketing the EF yachts in the Whitbread Round the World sailing competition. The new role took me around the world twice and was full of crazy and amazing experiences but it didn’t leave me much time for music.
After the race I quite my job at EF and I started to free lance as marketing and brand consultant. I also had a few jobs as graphic designer and worked for several different companies. It all went well but after a while I understood that what I really wanted to do was create and play music. It was the only thing that gave me satisfaction. I started to save money for the recording of my first solo album. I started to play more music again and during this period I also performed the role of Pilate, in Jesus Christ Superstar. It felt like I finally had come out of my closet of suits and ties. I guess I went into the next closet full of music where I’m sure I never want to leave. It has allowed me to unleash my creativity.
2002 I released my first solo album “Saving Grandma”, since then I’ve been trying to play as much music as I can. 2005 I launched my second album, “Me, my band that I älskar, Kasper and a bunch of friends”.
In late July 2006 I relesed my first single "Just" to U.S. radio and on the 12th of December last year it reached #1 on AC/Hot AC/Main Chart/New Music Weekly and it stayed as #1 for four weeks. And my second single "Please disturb me" is currently being played on radio in the USA.
On the 18th of November 2006 in Los Angeles I won the New Music Weekly Award for "AC Male Artist of The Year". The other nominees were James Blunt, John Mayer and Daniel Powter and I still find it hard to believe that I actually beat these guys.
If you want to know more about my music then you can check it out at www.tomlevin.com or at www.myspace.com/tomlevin
Right now I'm in the midst of recording a new album and working with my own music and everything around it occupies most of my time. However, I also write music for other artists and for commercials, perform voiceovers for commercials and animated films, and right now I'm working as a graphic designer for Ericsson Racing Team (doing the graphic design for their boats in the next Volvo Ocean Race). I also assist one of my brothers with his company called Effective Studios (www.effectivestudios.com) that produces and sells software for building websites.
My plan is to keep writing, playing and recording as much music as I can afford. I’ll keep paying for my bills through different jobs that I enjoy but my dream is to be able to play my music full time.
I live together with my girlfriend Anna in an apartment in the middle of Stockholm. I'm really looking forward to show her Alaska. We'll be arriving on the 20th of June. See you all soon.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
