Today's Featured Biography
Cheryl Beisheim Nettleman
Is anyone else intimidated and tongue tied when attending these dinners? I certainly am. You all look so confident and know exactly what to say. It's hard to go up to you and start talking! What are some topics we have in common? I am a big Big Bang Theory fan and also a Dave Ramsey fan. I love reading mysteries and Regency romances. I just got a smart phone and will share pictures of my new grand baby, if you show me yours.
I still would like to burn my picture! Did I really ever look that geeky? I wish someone had told me to wear a solid color and makeup.
Well, after I graduated from SUNY Alfred, I got a job at Xerox--thought I had it made! I hated it. So I went to RIT for computer programming. I got a job with DuPont in Delaware where three life changing events happened. I started in with Rheumatoid Arthritis (from a car accident in 1981), I became a Christian, and I met and married Jim Nettleman. He is my best friend, my hero, and my love.
His job took us to western Kentucky and then central Indiana where Matthew was born in 1988. When Matt started kindergarten, I decided to get a degree in accounting and sat and passed the CPA exam! Since then I have passed the Certified Financial Planner, and Series 7 and 66 exams.
Our little boy is now married and a doctor in Avon, Indiana about 45 minutes away. He and Christy just had a baby boy at the end of October, Liam. We think he's wonderful.
Jim had a heart attack in November of 2017, arrested right in his chair. After all the drama, he ended up with 5 bypasses and a long recovery. He went back to work in February of 2018 but by summer had decided working wasn't how he wanted to spend his time. In September of 2018 he retired at 61 and we are enjoying spending time together. I roped him in to volunteering with me to tutor at Lafayette Adult Resource Academy and he has really expanded his role there.
What have I done? I've been a secretary, volunteer firefighter/EMT, computer programmer, computer salesman/consultant, stay at home mom, tax accountant, financial counselor/planner, accountant and volunteer tutor and now doting grandmother. I am currently preparing taxes with the VITA program and really enjoying the people.
I am a most blessed woman.
My prayer is that you too will lift up your eyes to Him who always has held you in the palm of His hand.
