Richard Strobel
An award-winning attorney, public official, civic leader, political operative, lobbyist, & mentor, Richard is an accomplished & highly sought after speaker, lecturer, & commentator on legal & political issues. He earned his Juris Doctorate Degree from Rutgers University School of Law, Camden, NJ, after being awarded 4 academic scholarships & participating in the Stratton Advanced Moot Court Program. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree magna cum laude from Saint Joseph's University, Philadelphia, majoring in International Relations, minoring in Economics, & achieving certification as a Latin American Studies Scholar. He has been inducted into Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity International, Alpha Sigma Nu – National Jesuit Honor Society, Pi Sigma Alpha – National Politics Honor Society, & Omicron Delta Epsilon – International Economics Honor Society. He worked multiple jobs while a full-time student to fund his own higher education. Richard was elected to be a Fellow in Leadership NJ – a renowned hands-on program combining retreats, field visits, seminars, case studies, & simulations emphasizing public policy issues. He has participated as a Barrister in the Sidney Reitman American Inn of Court, earned the Diplomate in NJ Local Government Law from Rutgers University, earned the Certificate in Public Sector Labor Management Relations from Rutgers University, merited recognition by the Eagleton Institute of Politics for his leadership in an innovative public policy research project, & volunteered as a Coach for the Dale Carnegie Training Program – mentoring participants & improving their public speaking & interpersonal skills. Licensed to practice law in NJ & PA and specializing in governmental, land use, & elder law, Richard represents public agencies & serves as chief counsel for a 350 employee/$50 million budget county-based public agency. Formerly Assistant Counsel to Governor Thomas H. Kean – the youngest in NJ history to serve in this post – he has been nominated by 4 NJ Governors of both political parties, & confirmed by the Senate, to serve as Chairman of the State Board of Human Services overseeing State Government’s largest department, with 25,000 employees/$9.8 billion budget. His past experience includes serving as a legislative assistant on Capitol Hill for a NJ congressman, and working for a county prosecutor’s office, federal judge, & major South Jersey law firm. Richard has also devoted considerable time to providing free legal services to indigents & nonprofit organizations. He has earned admission to the bars of the U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, U.S. District Court for the District of NJ, U.S. Tax Court, & U.S. Courts of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit, 6th Circuit, & 11th Circuits. A grassroots political operative who started as a campus activist over 20 years ago, he has led political organizations & campaigns establishing a track record of success in municipal, county, state, & federal elections. A prominent political website in 2000 named Richard one of its "40 People to Watch." A resident of Cinnaminson, Burlington County, & Stone Harbor, Cape May County, Richard began his civic work at an early age serving as chairman of a municipal public utility, Rotary club president, officer & trustee for a county Red Cross chapter, board member at a private high school, lay minister for his church, & founding president of an educational foundation for his hometown public school district raising private sector money to enhance programs for children. As a longtime chairman of the Boy Scouts’ Law Explorer Post he mentored students interested in pursuing legal careers. In recognition of his charitable work, Richard has been presented with the American Red Cross Certificate of Honor, Criscuolo Award from the Burlington County Bar Association for Outstanding Civic Service; NJ Senate Citation; & NJ State Bar Association Service to the Community Award.
