Today's Featured Biography
Norman Crawford
Ah yes, where do you start? 50 years is a long time and alot of us have changed, but we're still the same kids who graduated from GHS,so many years ago!
After graduation, that fall my parents put me on a bus (in front of Style's Drug Store!) and sent me to Montreal, where I attended The Royal Victoria Hospital School for Radiological Technologists, at McGill University. These were great years for a country boy, in the third largest Freanch speaking city in the world. At first, it was pretty intimidating, but I knew I had only one shot at this, so I "buckeled down" and in the end I did okay.
After graduation, I returned to the US,in Dec.1958 and went job hunting, which at that time was tough. While I was waiting to land a job, I joined the National Guard, because I knew I was going to get drafted.I landed a job in North Adams, Mass. but soon after I had to do my active duty in Fort Knox, Ky.
When I got back to Groveton, I sent resumes to every hospital in New England and finally got a call from Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London, CT., for an Assistant Chief position in the Radiology department. I interviewed for the job and got it!
I worked for the hospital for 32 years in various positions: as Director of the School for Radiologic Technologists, Chief Technician, and taught Radiation Physics for twenty five years and finally as Administrative Director of The Department of Radiology.
In "93", the hospital offered an early retirement package and I was able to take advantage of it!
After I retired, I opened my own business "Crawford Clocks", an off shoot of a hobby I have had for many years It's been fun and I am busier than I really need to be at times. It's nice being your own boss.
In 1962, I met a cute blonde student nurse at Bridgeport Hospital, through a close friend and just knew I wasn't going to "let this one get away". We were married that year and soon settled in Waterford,CT.
We have one son and two daughters. We also have four grandaughters and one grandson, ranging in age from 19 to 2 and 1/2!!
We still live in Waterford and contiue to love the great weather on the shores of Long Island Sound.
We spend as much time in NH as The Great North Woods will always be home!!
I'd like to take a moment to say how proud I am of the Class of "55". Everyone of them are explemplory citizens who have contributed to their communities and enriched the lives of the people around them. I couldn't be prouder!!!
Hope to see you ALL this summer!!!
"Norm"

Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
