Today's Featured Biography

May I opine? Wow, 30 years have gone by and the elephant still roams the halls of MHS. I’m talking, of course, about our name the “SKIPPERS.” Yesterday I told a colleague that I was a SKIPPER and he asked – do you mean you throw rocks across the water? Sorry, but my MHS patients (current and grads) all agree that the name isn’t the best. Sure, I’m proud of my high school heritage, but SKIPPERS??? Does that really represent the kind of moxie and fortitude found at MHS? I confess, that as a third grader, I probably thought the name “SKIPPERS” was paying homage to Gilligan’s Island – “hey little buddy.” Then, perhaps, I thought it was in reference to not attending every class. As far as proximity, Purgatory Creek was a much nearer body of water to MHS. There were certainly no SKIPPERS on that creek. But I suppose graduating from Purgatory has other connotations. Might I suggest that we could turn-the-tide? I offer (as a starting point after 30 years of deep reflection) the following [ever so slightly] more applicable suggestions:
THE DOCKERS – “We cast off for no one!” or as a very successful garment line
“We never slack off!”
THE EROSIONS – “Our wake will wash you away!”
DREISSENA POLYMORPHA (aka ZEBRA MUSSELS) –
People won’t know what it is or what to make of us, and I think that’s a step in the right direction. “We’ll clog you up and shut you down!”
EURASIAN MILFOILS –
“You can chop, chop, chop but we’ll never stop, stop, stop!”
Hornets, Trojans, Eagles, Hawks – they don’t own the water like we do.

As for my most recent facts:
I graduated from MHS circa 1979 and … now I’m a partner/physician/medical informaticist at Lakeview Clinic and Ridgeview Medical Center. My wife Diane (not a skipper or my first mate) is a senior underwriter at Ovations, a division of UnitedHealth Group. Ryan (1992) is a junior at Chaska high school and has a license to drive so watch out! Marissa (1996) is an eighth grader in Chaska middle school and pretty much runs things her way, just ask her. Our dog Sierra is a siberian husky, she still can’t text on her cell phone. So I really don’t know what she’s up to these days. BOL (bark out loud)
