Today's Featured Biography
Carrol Kleinschmidt
During my working years we lived in St. Louis, MO; Lee's Summit, MO; Tampa, FL; Marietta, GA; and Big Canoe, GA. The bulk and last of those years was spent as a manufacturer's representative for the food service equipment industry specializing in commercial ice makers. I retired at age 60 to the beautiful north Georgia mountains where we built our dream home. There golf, fishing, a great fitness center, and bridge were the center of my attention. A friend of mine started a medical clinic in Jasper, GA to provide services to the working poor and I also became active in it.
But alas Susan wanted to be closer to her grandchildren in Nashville, TN and in 2005 we moved to Franklin, TN. The first day in our house here I had an accident that seperated the Quadricep from the knee cap and while it is as healed as it will get and I have total mobility, golf is no longer a sport in which I can participate on a regular basis.
Volunteering now occupies much of my time. Last year I started the Prescription Drug Assistance Program for the Siloam Family Health Center in Nashville. This clinic provides healthcare to those who don't have insurance or who can't afford the cost of regular medical treatment. The program has become very successful and we should provide $1.25M in no charge prescription medications to the patients of the clinic this year based upon today's pace.
Duplicate bridge has also become a passion. I am a member of the Vanderbilt Bridge Club and regularly participate in area tournaments and look forward to the ACBL Nationals here in July.
Susan and I also enjoy traveling and we try to take at least 2 two-week trips each year. Our last one was to Germany and in another month we will spend 2 weeks in Southern Utah touring the many National Parks located there.
We look forward to seeing each of you at the reunion.
