Today's Featured Biography
Herman Schlichting
Bud and Diane live in Chesterfield, MO, a suburb of St. Louis. Their home is a condo where they enjoy all aspects of not mowing grass or shoveling snow. They have lived in Chesterfield for 23 years.
Diane grew up in Kirkwood, MO.
Of course, Bud grew up in Douglas, WY.
They met in 1991 and have been walking the love walk ever since.
Diane worked in administrative positions, until retiring in 1997. She was successful in adopting new processes and was recognized for her outstanding contributions. Diane began Grandmother Duties in 1999 and has been “on-call” since then.
Bud worked at McDonnell Douglas, now Boeing, from Sept 1962 through July 2004. He had 5 careers within the same company and was privileged to travel to several parts of the world on business related to our military fighter jets. He then taught MBA Program Management courses at 2 universities in St. Louis.
Bud and Diane are members of the St. Louis Family Church in Chesterfield, MO.
I’m Bud Schlichting. My given name is Herman, but I go by “Bud.”
I was born and raised in Douglas, WY, a small wind-swept town in central Wyoming. My
baby book says it was “Minus 37 Deg F” on my 5 Jan 1942 birthday.
I was pleased to live in Douglas, but our family moved to Denver in 1958, where I finished
high school at East High.
College was at DeVry Tech in Chicago. A degree in electronic design – early solid
state/transistor technologies. I married and fathered 4 children but later divorced.
In 1991, Diane and I met and have been on a honeymoon ever since. Diane has 2 wonderful
grown children, and now we enjoy grandchildren.
I have 42-years’ experience in Program Management and Logistics Management at
McDonnell Douglas / Boeing Company. I was privileged to have extensive international
aerospace experience in the Middle East and Japan.
My very first job was writing Gemini Spacecraft launch countdown and simulated flight
procedures. Then I wrote the same procedures for the Skylab Orbital Workshop (the first US
space station) and went to Cape Kennedy to participate in Skylab launch.
My most recent contributions to Boeing included program management of major aircraft
programs and the pursuit of excellence using the Malcolm Baldrige criteria for running the
business. Our Boeing Aerospace Support business unit received the 2003 Malcolm Baldrige
National Quality Award.
I retired from Boeing in July 2004.
I then taught Master-Degree-Level courses at 2 universities in St. Louis, while also running a
management consulting business, specializing in program management, general management,
and using the Malcolm Baldrige criteria for running a company.
I worked for Microsoft for a period, establishing program management at a major client in St.
Louis.
Diane and I live in Chesterfield, Missouri (a suburb of St. Louis) and enjoy our grandchildren.
Our faith in Christ is very important to us and has been essential to life’s journey. God has
blessed our family with long life and relative healthiness. God bless you all!!!
