MHS ‘64 Scholarship
At our last reunion, we, the MHS Class of 1964, established a scholarship fund with the Eastern WV Community Foundation. The primary purpose is to award an annual scholarship in our Class's name to a graduating MHS senior to pursue higher education. The goal was to establish a real means for our class to give back to our school and community which gave each of us 'our start in life'. This scholarship is one way to simply say thank you, to show our gratitude and, most importantly, to have our class's name and memory live on beyond us.
As of August 2013, our Fund has a balance of $11,175. This fund is the 'seed investment' and the interest on this amount will determine the scholarship amount each year. To date, we have awarded 3 scholarships: $500 in 2010, $175 in 2011, and $300 in 2013. In 2010 and 2012 individuals contributed directly to the scholarship being awarded that year to help increase the actual scholarship amount. Scholarship recipients are selected each March and any funds contributed directly to the scholarship (and not the seed fund) should be mailed by
March 1. All class members are encouraged to contribute to our Fund or the actual scholarship and can do so by sending a check to the following address:
Eastern WV Community Foundation
229 E. Martin St., Suite 4
Martinsburg, WV 25401
304-264-0353
Checks should be made payable to The Eastern WV Community Foundation and indicate on memo line that it is for the 'MHS '64 Scholarship Fund' or as a 'Pass through' for the actual scholarship. All donations are tax deductible.
Your generosity will ultimately offer MHS students a helping hand and give them 'their start in life'!
Call Walter Brown if you have any questions 304-283-6296.

Pam and I have been married for 19 years and have just built a new house in the wilds of western Monongalia County, WV. I am back at the WVU Foundation after spending 10 years as VP at Shepherd (hard to think of it as a university) and then four years at Radford (VA)University also as a VP. I got tired of that role after 14 years and re-thought my work priorities and decided to enjoy myself for the few working years ahead. Pam runs her jewelery business in WV and VA and is still singing several times a month. We have no children and just lost our spoiled rotten dog after 13 years. My immediate family all live now in Tampa so I don't get back to martinsburg as much as I would like.
I got my PhD in 1980 in history from WVU but have been in university fund raising for almost 30 years now (twice at WVU). I did a four-year hitch in the Air Force as a medic (shows the military does have a sense of humor since my biology and chemistry grades were lesss than medical school caliber)and got out in '72 as a staff sergeant.
Hobbies are golf, mysteries, traveling and my wife's business.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
