Today's Featured Biography

Tammy Dirks Koenig

Once an anti hunter, Tammy now has harvested over 100 whitetail deer and other big game animals. She is an outdoor enthusiast who has received national recognition for her success in teaching archery and bow hunting as well as her expertise in whitetail hunting. A writer, speaker and certified NBEF instructor, she also teaches for NWTF’s “Woman in the Outdoors” and the “Becoming an Outdoors Woman” program.

Tammy is officially recorded as the world’s first woman to instruct an all woman class in the fine skills of archery and bowhunting. She achieved this title by teaching the very first “Becoming an Outdoor Woman” event ever conducted in 1990. All future programs were patterned after this event. In 2000, she was voted teacher of the year by its participants. Tammy is founder of Leading Ladies Outdoors, LLC. Encouraging women to take up the sport of hunting applies to her own family as well.

Passing on her passion for hunting Tammy’s daughter Brittany has joined the hunting ranks right a long side her mom. This hunting Duo can be seen on various hunting shows using anything the bow, rifle and muzzleloader to a crossbow. At the age of 31, Brittany is a vocal performer as well as a RN with 3 children. She has been hunting as far back as she can remember taking her first whitetails with the bow at age 12. Brittany and her Mom are best known for the hilarious laughing fits that accompany them on every hunting trip they take. The tight friendship and hunting camaraderie between this mother & daughter hunting team is evident as they wander the country in search of wild game and unforgettable memories. They are the hunting worlds first professional mother/daughter hunting team.

Proudly sitting on several hunting industry pro staffs, Tammy logs thousands of miles in pursuit of big game with her bow each year. Public appearances through speaking engagements, sport shows, television and radio spots gracefully season her time in between hunts. She is also a licensed Broker heading up the "Magnolia Team" at Century 21 Affiliated as a Real Estate Agent lending her hunting expertise to assisting clients in buying and selling residential and hunting land in Wisconsin.

Noted for her contagious passion for hunting, Tammy has carved out a permanent place in the outdoor hunting world. Writing articles, traveling the country hunting and teaching seminars, she is frequently featured in national magazines, on sporadic television shows and hunting DVD’S.

Tammy and her daughter Brittany. Hosted the outdoor television show " Leading Ladies Outdoors" for 3 years before starting a bowhunting education academy.

Having a determined goal of sharing Gods great outdoors with other women and children she always has this divine purpose firmly in focus. She speaks for dozens of church wild game feeds each year as well as sport shows.

Tammy is a professional hunter and television personality. She and her daughter have also appeared on the shows The Hunters Journal, AdventureBound Outdoors, Outdoor Pursuits, Dave Carlson’s Northland Adventures, Wild Wisconsin and other outdoor programs over the past 16 years. These productions stretch across the national networks of OLN, ESPN, The Outdoor Channel, The Sportsman’s Channel Pursuit Channel and broadcast stations spanning fifteen states. Picking up her first bow at age 16 (when girls hunting wasn’t cool!) she is an avid hunter of 43 years. She presses on with the sole aim of embracing a whole new generation of hunters. Tammy is never happier than when passing on her appreciation for the awe and beauty of God’s creation doing keynote speaking at churches around the country each year.

Tammy's daughter Casey lives in Altoona,WI with two daughters. She holds a Masters degree in Criminal Justice she does her own style of hunting....for the bad guy! She is a juvenile detention officer for Eau Claire County. She may just stand 5"2" but she is definitely a force to be reckoned with!

Last but not least Tammy is enjoying 39 years of marital bliss this year. Her husband Peter joins her on several hunts and when not behind the camera, enjoys bowhunting as well. He is employed in Baldwin, WI by Contour Plastics as a plastics engineer manager.
