BREAKFAST REPORT ON MARCH 13
Welcome to spring In Wisconsin. Inspite of a miserable January & February filled with cold, freezing rainy days, the sunny 30's plus days with sunshine had all of us smiling. The thawing rivers and rapidly melting snow stacked ice blocks under bridges causing much flooding in Northeast Wisconsin. The Duck Creek and East Rivers over flowed their banks ruining folks homes, closing schools and various parks in the community. Things have settled down and the snowbanks along the sides of my driveway are now low enough for me to shovel snow over the top. Trust me I am not eager to prove this.
Our March breakfast was a beautiful day and a fairly small group of classmates enjoyed reminising about our high school days.
The redo of the Northland Hotel remind some of a string trio of our classmates who played for weddings and receptions and were even televised a couple of times on live TV. Can you remember these talented young people? Those who can will get free coffee at our next breakfast.
Some of our southern classmates shared some weather related horror stories of their own. Luckily Panama City Beach is up and running. Just contact Dave Everas at White Sands Rental (850)708-5958. Lucky for us we get to wear sunglasses all year round on sunny days that is.
I want to thank those of you who have shared their winters down south, their memories of our time together and the loss of some of our classmates with us.
Please let us know if you will be in the area so we can do an "emergency" breakfast or lunch. If you can make a scheduled breakfast feel free to bring a friend, a shy classmate or a spouse. Our next breakfast will be May 8, 2019 at the Village Grille. Please make a reservation with Ellen Olson @ [email protected].
Enjoy the day and stay in touch. Love, Barb & West '58 Classmates

Today's Featured Biography
Nancy McNamara Shaw
My dad retired in 1958 and my parents headed to the Sunshine State and warm weather. I enrolled in the University of Florida in Gainesville, met Richard Shaw (a native Floridian) and we married two years later. I graduated with a BD from the College of Architecture and three months later our first daughter Melissa arrived and ten days later Dick got an MA from the College of Health Services. We stayed in Gainesville where Dick worked for the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation.
In 1965 we moved to Winter Haven (Dick’s home town) and he became a District Director of the DVR. Our second daughter Amy was born in 1967. We are a somewhat unique family in Florida since both of our daughters are 3rd generation Floridians and now Amy’s son Caden is a 4th generation Floridian.
Dick subsequently went to work for Polk Community College in the Counseling Division and earned a doctorate in educational administration from Nova University. I commuted to the University of South Florida in Tampa to earn a MA in Humanities Education and began my career as a college professor, then a coordinator of development for the college and finally moved into hospital fundraising. I ended my work years at Lakeland Regional Medical Center after having been the Planned Giving and Major Gifts Officer for 13 years.
Dick and I are both retired and enjoy traveling and especially our three grandchildren. Melissa and Jeff live in Austin, TX with their son Jared (11) and daughter Maya (9). Amy and Doug reside in Winter Haven with their son Caden (6). We have Caden with us each day after school and this keeps us on our toes! Amy works as the Coordinator for Media Technology at Garner School and is a nationally certified teacher. Melissa completed her education at Florida State in Fashion Merchandising and Marketing and had a wonderful career in private label shoe development at May Company in NYC. She currently assists her husband in their food brokerage business.
Dick and I celebrated our fiftieth wedding anniversary in June 2010. Our celebration included a trans-Atlantic repositioning cruise on the Celebrity Equinox leaving from Ft. Lauderdale with stops in the Azores, Portugal, Spain, France and Italy. We took several days post-cruise to visit Rome.
I enjoy genealogy research and my proudest accomplishment in that area has been completing the research to have Dick recognized as an official descendent of William Brewster of the Mayflower. I also enjoy scrapbooking, photography and gardening. Dick is a dedicated Barbershop Harmony Society singer and has served in many state offices and as International President of the organization. This affiliation has been the stimulus for travel to England, Scotland, Ireland, and Canada as well as across the US.
We enjoyed the reunion and look forward to future gatherings.
