Today's Featured Biography
Scott Herrmann
I’ve lived most of my life in the Spokane, Washington, area exploring the nearby lakes and mountains when I wasn’t in school or at work. After high school I attended college, receiving an A.A.S. in electronics technology.
I was fortunate enough to obtain employment with Hewlett-Packard in the wireless communication sector. I worked with an incredible group of forward-looking individuals and had the freedom to spend a great deal of time in the outdoors. As a result of my flexible work schedule I was able to hike huge stretches of the Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, and countless wilderness areas throughout the Western United States. My favorite area though soon became the Bob Marshall Wilderness where I could wander for several weeks at a time. During the winter months I would backcountry and telemark ski which, beside the mountains of Eastern Washington, Northern Idaho, and Western Montana, open vast areas of Canada to me. I had the opportunity to telemark the Valhalla, Bugaboo, and Kootenay ranges of Western Canada. When I wasn’t hiking and skiing, I would be mountain biking the many trails of the Inland Northwest.
About ten years ago I began volunteering at my daughter’s school and quickly fell in love with teaching. I decided it was now or never for a mid-life career change, so I left HP and went back to school for education. I attended Eastern Washington University (EWU) where I majored in reading and minored in mathematics. Before coming to Savoonga, Alaska, I work in education for the Mead School District, the American Indian Center, and Northwest Autism Center (through EWU).
I came to Savoonga for the small town atmosphere and the unspoiled environment as well as the adventure of living in the Northwest Alaska.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
