After graduating from Ingraham, I attended Seattle Pacific University (earning a Bachelor's in Political Science) and then the University of Washington Law School. Next I entered a management-training program at Northwest Airlines (stationed at Sea-Tac), before ultimately taking an administrative role in my local church (now called Fairview Church at 78th & Roosevelt in Seattle). In time, I became the church's Senior Pastor (long and unexpected story, but that's what happened). During that season I also represented the old 44th Legislative District in the Washington State House (1982). In 1991, I accepted a call to become Senior Pastor of the Madison Park Church in Anderson, Indiana (suburban northeast Indianapolis metro). I held that post for 22 years (until 2013), when I was called "up" to serve as General Director of Church of God Ministries (also based in Anderson). In this seat, I provide leadership for Church of God 2,123 congregations in the United States and Canada and help network the church in 86 countries. I have been married to my wife Maureen (O'Connor) since 1978 (she graduated in 1972 from Lincoln High School in Seattle, sorry). We have four sons and four grandchildren. After over two decades in Indiana, Seattle still feels like home and we visit often (as both my wife's and my extended families are there). I was always in the background at Ingraham and quite the shy, geeky, nerdy guy then--never up front. Now, implausibly, I routinely speak to thousands all over the world--I know the foundation constructed in my Ingraham days (yes, Miss Ripley's journalism and Cascade class, Mrs. Sawyer's English class, and all the rest) set the stage for what I do now. I often drive by Ingraham when home in Seattle and thank God I had a chance to go there. Looking back, it was all good.
