Today's Featured Biography
Jeffrey Waters
Jeffrey L. Waters
Jeff Waters is a Washington state native, born in Tacoma in 1944. He graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in political science and constitutional law. After a long career as a financial advisor, he retired to Snoqualmie Ridge with his wife, Carol.
Jeff has been painting for ten years and is active in Evergreen Fine Arts and is past president and current editor for the Northwest Watercolor Society. He has studied with many noted watercolor artists including, Jerry Stitt, Chuck Webster, Don Andrews, Joe Garcia, Eric Wiegardt, Cathe Gill, Arnie Westerman, Jan Hart, Kay Barnes, Tom Schaller, Michael Reardon and Joe Mac Kechnie. He was selected to paint the official portraits of the new Snoqualmie City Hall, the new Snoqualmie Community Center and the 2015 official city Christmas card. Jeff teaches for the Metropolitan Park District and Bellevue College and the City of Snoqualmie. He is active in Rotary, St. Clare’s Episcopal Church, and sits on the Snoqualmie Arts Commission. He has won several awards including “Best of Show”.
Jeff loves to travel and often goes on “walkabout” throughout the southwest or across the country, stopping to paint whatever catches his eye. He has traveled to South Africa, Greece, Spain, Portugal, France, Germany, Holland, Hungary, The Czech Republic and England. His favorite trip was to Tuscany, Italy with Joe Mac Kechnie. He recently enjoyed a two-month painting tour of Europe with Carol.
Statement – “Painting is not magic. We all start at the same place. I’m deeply frustrated by people who watch the glory of watercolor unfold on my paper in the field and say, ‘I’ve always wanted to paint but I could never do that. I have no talent.’ It has nothing to do with talent! It is knowledge acquired from mentors and accumulated time with a brush in your hand. We are all still learning. NWWS is filled with great artists who would be delighted to help you begin. Many offer classes.”

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
