Melba Ford Wilkerson
I attended Hot Wells School and then went to high school at Brackenridge, graduating in the class of 1954. I entered Texas State College for Women at Denton, Texas in September 1954. I graduated in June 1958 with a B.S. in Nursing from Texas Woman's University, previouse TSCW. I earned a Masters of Education from Stephen F. Sustin University, Nacogodoches, Texas in 1972.
I met my husband at Parkland Hospital in Dallas when I was a nursing student and he was a medical student. He graduated from UT Southwesten Medical Schoolin 1960. He joined the United State Public Health Service and we lived in Norfolk, Va, Baltimore, MD, and Claremore, OK. In June 1963, after he finished his service with the USPHS, he opened his office in family practice medicine in Henderson, Texas, where he worked for over forty years before illness forced him to retire in 2006. He died in 2008.
I worked in various postions in nursing including pediatrica at Parkland Hospital and public health in West Dallas as a young woman; teaching in the Associate Degree Nursing Program at Kilgore College, and several positions at our local hospital. My favoirte job was being a Mother to my three children. Keith is a family pracitice physciain in Arlington, TX and father of six. My daughter, Danese, is a stay at home Mom of five who home schools her children, three of whom are now in college. Danese gradauted from North Texas.
My hushand and I were priveleged to travel to Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America. We had many wonderful experiences because we traveled independenly by car or train.
I enjoy a variety of activites including reading, bird watching, gardening with the Master Gardeners in my town, genealogy, many church activities, traveling, and of course, entertaining my grandchildren. I have a wonderful circle of friends because after living in a town of 12,000 for 53 years, you get to know a lot of folks really well. Life is good and God is even Better!

Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
