Like most of you, the years at Bell were certainly some of our best. You may remember me as a member of Bell's award winning Band, and the Junior Fire Department program taught by Mr. Jim Nichols, who also taught Biology.
On a date with Nancy Hamilton our senior year, I met Susan, who was the blind date for my friend Joe Chase. Susan and I married in 75 and we have been hanging out as roommates since. She has been an Independent Sales Director for Mary Kay, Inc. for 14 years. First grandchild, Ashlyn arrived 2004, a grandson 2013, and a great granddaughter 2011. There was college at TCJC and UTA, with degrees in Fire Protection and Law Enforcement. After Bell, I went into the Fire Service, working for the Haltom City and Hurst Fire Departments before becoming the Fire Chief at Forest Hill in 1974. After 6 1/2 years as Chief, I left something I loved very much to tackle a childhood dream, Medicine.
I graduated from medical school, and after Post-Grad training earned Board Certifications in Family Practice and Emergency Medicine. I had a Family Practice for 10 years in Forest Hill and Kennedale. As the former Director of the Emergency Department, I'm now Chief Emeritus of Emergency Services at North Hills Hospital, in North Richland Hills. I was Chief of the Department of Medicine and Emergency Medicine for 3 years. I was President of the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association, 2012-2013.
The Fire Service remains a major passion in my life, through the provision of Medical Director Services to Fire and EMS agencies. Following Katrina I began studies toward a third Board Certification in Disaster Medicine.
Travel, cruising, SCUBA, Precision Shooting, Nikon photography, and enology are a few of my major interest. I also lecture on the “Health Benefits of Wine” to both medical and private groups. Susan and I have a particular love of New Orleans, where I am a member of the Krewe of Hermes, a Mardi Gras float group, so you'll find me throwing beads annually. You can usually find us there about 4 weeks out of the year during JazzFest, Mardi Gras, Wine & Food Fest, and as many special occasions as possible. I look forward to hearing from and seeing my old friends each year at our annual get together. The highlight of mine and Susan's year is a cruise with our granddaughter Ashlyn a couple of weeks before she starts school in August. Post dinner tradition is for Susan to head to the Casino while Ashlyn and I "shop 'til we drop." We've done 6 with her and it is our greatest 7-10 days each year.
"Laissez les Bon Temps Rouler", as the Cajuns say, or "Let the Good Times Roll" to the rest of us. The Spirit of New Orleans rose again, and Mardi Gras 2006 was awesome!
