Dan Young
Daniel R. Young, former Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Federal Data Corporation (FDC), retired after having served the company in various executive capacities for more that two decades. He joined FDC in 1976 as the Executive Vice President, and in 1985, was elected President and Chief Operating Officer. Following the acquisition in 1995 of FDC by The Carlyle Group, Mr. Young assumed the position of President and Chief Executive Officer. In 1998, he was elected Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors. In 2001, Mr. Young Was instrumental in the sale of Federal Data Corporation to Northrop Grumman Corporation. He is currently Managing Partner of The Turnberry Group, an advisory practice to C.E.O.’s, Boards of Directors and other senior executives.
Before joining FDC, Mr. Young was an executive with Data Transmission Company where he ultimately became Executive Vice President. Prior to that, he held various engineering, sales and management positions at Texas Instruments, Inc. He also served in the U.S. Navy as a sea officer.
Mr. Young was a recipient of the 1998 Federal Computer Week Eagle Award. Two individuals receive the award each year - one from government and one from industry. Mr. Young received this prestigious award for making outstanding contributions to the federal information technology community. He was commended for championing government/industry partnerships while successfully reinventing FDC through the successful acquisitions of six companies over an 11-month period.
In 1990, 1992 and 1994, Mr. Young received the Federal Computer Week Federal 100 Award that goes to a select group of executives from government, industry and academia, as determined by an independent panel of judges, to have had a significant impact on the government information and telecommunication systems community. He later served as a Judge for the Eagle Award in 1995 and 1997.
He is a graduate of the University of Texas where he earned a B.S. degree in engineering and a J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law.
Mr. Young currently sits on the Boards of GTSI Corporation, and NCI, Inc, as well as several private corporations and industry boards.
Mr. Young is married to the former Dee Kurzweg Hall and has four sons and two daughters.
