Daniel Deardorff

I have been inspired to be the first to log onto the Vo-Tech Class of 1984 Official Web-Site after looking at and being part of the Dallastown 1984 Class Web-Site. Any of you can follow the link to www.classreport.com/usa/pa/dallastown/dashs/1984/ and discover the advantages of what a fully operational web-site could be like. Hopefully other class alumni will see this and decide to get involved.

As for me, 3 years on active duty in the NAVY after graduation. It is amazing to see that some of my D-town classmates have already retired from the service (it could have been me), but the military just did not fit my lifestyle. I enjoyed my time spent but just could not see it as a carreer. Then it was back to my roots in printing (which is what I studied at Tech). I spent two years at a company in York before heading south to the Baltimore area where the money was in the printing trade. I married my childhood sweetheart and we settled in Westminster, MD for two years before relocating to the Hanover, PA area where we will remain until retirement. My daughter will grow up a Mustang. After 10 years at a company in Baltimore that relocated to Columbia, MD I took a job in York. As they say, the grass is not always greener... a year and a half later I found myself back in the Baltimore area at a book binding company. It is a smaller company so I wear a few hats. Primarily I am the purchasing agent and I am heavily involved in estimating as well as handling the customer service responsibilities for several of our house accounts. Needless to say, I always have something to do.

Time away from work is spent with my wife and daughter. You will be amazed to see the age ranges of our classmates children. Rebecca is now nine and is our one and only. Not for lack of trying but she is what the Lord blessed us with and we have accepted that. We are looking forward to adding a puppy to our family sometime in 2005. We had to put down our previous dog last May, not a pleasant thing to do! I am also extremely involved in our church and feel as though I spend more time there then home some weeks. It is very rewarding. Had I played my cards differently I would probably be in the ministry now. But I am happy to live out my calling through lay leadership, that is equally important to the success of any congregation.
