After graduating from SHS, I continued working at Keithan's Bakery for a year before going to Taylor University @ Upland, Indiana. I graduated from there in 1962 with a B.S. in Education with a Physical Education major and Art minor.
Taught Elementary P.E. in Versailles, Ohio from 1966 to `968 and married Wayne Gemberling in February, 1967. We moved to New Hampshire where I taught Middle School P.E., coached and undefeated girls' basketball team and helped start the first Elementary P.E. program in Derry, N.H. We moved back "home" in 1970 and I taught High School P.E. at Line Mountain, coached field hockey and softball, intramural gymnastics, adult volleyball, and cheerleading [yes, you see that right!]
Wayne and I owned Gemberling's Bicycle Shop in Sunbury from 1974 to 1994. I had already gone to work for Giant in Shamokin Dam in 1991 and was burning the candle at both ends.
We adopted our daughter Debra Sue in 1980 - brought all five pounds of her home from the hospital as tho' I'd given birth to her myself. We even took her birth mother to the hospital for her tests and for the delivery at 3 a.m. Friday, October 31.
I retired from Giant on July 3 of this year and am keeping busy refinishing furniture, remodeling a room, and just about anything anyone asks me to do. I make Basset hounds out of black walnut [maiden name = Basett] and still love to ride bicycle especially with my two grandsons, Anthony and Brennen .
They play Shikellamy Youth Football and wrestle in the youth league. They are interested in mixed martial arts and have trained a little with Tim Boetsch from Sunbury.
Wayne and I attend Seven Points Chapel in Seven Points near Augustaville. All four of our parents have passed on as well as Wayne's only brother and my sister Sherry [class of 1962]. I still have one sister and four brothers living: Bob , Cliff , Wayne , Darwin and Rosemary [1969?].

The Selinsgrove Rotary Club presented their annual Distinguished Service Award to Pete and Mary Anne “Cookie” DeWire at an awards dinner held at the Susquehanna Valley Country Club. The award recognizes individuals in the community who, by their actions, live Rotary’s motto of Service Above Self. The DeWire's have been very active in many aspects of the Selinsgrove area community for many decades. Their most recent volunteer efforts have helped shape East Snyder Park, a recreational area just West of the Selinsgrove.
