James Luper

At PCHS: Spanish Club '57,'58

J.A. and his wife Pat (Patricia Glenn Clark of Pine Bluff, Arkansas) were married November 1963 and are the parents of James Brent Luper (b June 1969) and Heather Gwen Luper Hines (b Christmas Day 1971. Brent and his wife, Rinda, and daughter, Alexandria (b January 2006) live in Yukon, OK. Brent is now the proprietor of J.A.Luper and Son Automotive Service. J.A. retired from there in 2003 and turned the business over to him. Daughter, Heather, and her husband, Tim, and their daughters, McKenzie (b July 2002) and Taylor (b December 2006)), live in Dallas, TX. Heather works for Mary Kay Cosmetics' corporate office as a Director of Leadership Development and Education.

J.A. attended Bethany Nazarene College, then enlisted in the U.S. Army, attended training at the U.S. Army Mechanics School in Fort Benning, GA, served in the Army Security Agency and was stationed in Germany for 29 months. In 1974 he established his own business, J.A. Luper’s Automotive Service. He attended numerous clinics and classes from OSU Technical Institute and The General Motors training center in OKC. J.A. became a National Institue of Automotive Excellence Certified Master Automobile Technician in 1979. He was recognized as Technician of the year by NAPA in 1985 and 1987.

He coached several Junior Olympic Fastpitch Softball teams for his daughter 1977 to 1989. In 1984 they were ranked #5 in the nation. He attended Adult Basic Training and Woodbadge Adult Leader Training with the Boy Scouts of America (son, Brent, is an Eagle Scout), served as Assistant Scoutmaster and Troop Committee member. He is a member of the Masonic Lodge where in 1994 he was elected Worshipful Master of Yukon Lodge #90. He is a 32nd Degree Mason at the Guthrie Scottish Rite where he served as Director of the 23rd Degree for 5 years. As Master of the Lodge he was privileged to confer the first three degrees on son, Brent, who is also a Master Mason. He is a member of the American Legion Post 160, Yukon, OK.

One of his hobbies is snow skiing which has enable him to tackle the mountains of Winter Park, Mary Jane, Breckenridge, and Keystone in Colorado as well as Lake Tahoe and Sun Valley in CA. He and his family are members of the First United Methodist Church of Yukon where both Pat and J.A. have served as Sunday School teachers and have been involved in the youth ministry.

J.A. and son, Brent, build street rods most recently including a 1955 Chevy Gasser they proudly show and drag race at nostalgia drag racing events. They also attend numerous vintage car shows and participate in monthly poker runs. He is co-founder of the Myrmindons Car Club of Yukon, OK along with his son. He is a past member of the Sports Car Club of America, In 1970 he was rally driver of the year 1971, overall driver of the year in the Oklahoma region of the SCCA. He is also a past member of the Oklahoma City Corvette Club and National Council of Corvette Clubs.

In 2008, he’s survived prostate cancer, played his first round of golf (getting the highest score), attended his first OU football game where they pummeled the Chattanooga Mocs 57-2 and looks forward to much more to come. He also enjoys NASCAR, either live or on TV and gardening.

A favorite memory of PC is Mr. Leo Mayfield, who he feels should be the model for all high school principals.
