After graduation, I worked at Bailey Controls in the Nuclear Project Office at Wickliffe and in October, 1975 married Ed and moved to Wampum, Pennsylvania. To tell you it was a hole in the wall is a compliment. I've worked at various companies over the years including Townsend/Textron, Arco Chemical and the New Brighton Area Elementary School. Ed and I built a home in New Brighton, PA., and, after two years of headaches, finally moved into it in 1979 and have been here ever since. After 16 years of marriage, low and behold, I became pregnant for the first time in my life. My daughter is now 23 and Cassie is a full time missionary in American Sign Language in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and also works part time at Starbucks and has her own photography business. I was shocked when I saw how much she makes for one shoot, she loves it. We are so proud of her, she has been my best accomplishment to date. My stepdaughter Erin is 43 and lives in Miami Beach, Florida. She is a Pharmacy Technician. My husband Ed retired from the USPS in Pittsburgh. He is a Vietnam Veteran, who served during the Tet Offense in 1968. So far he is a survivor of cancer and heart disease. He's one tough veteran.
I have been a Type I (Juvenile) Diabetic since 1958. I am on the insulin pump and it has brought me a more stable and regulated lifestyle. (although at times I want to rip out the catheter and throw it over a cliff) I received my 50 year medal from Joslins Clinic in Boston for having survivied Type I Diabetes in 2008. I truly appreciate my friends from high school for helping me deal with my illness and giving me a hand when I truly needed help. Special thanks to Janet Hollis, Becky Kovar, Patti Leonello and Gail Malm, for putting up with me. And my dear brother Gary for getting me home safe. Even though I never smoked cigarettes or weed, haha, I was diagnosed with COPD in 2008. I am now in the third stage out of four. What a roller coaster ride life has been and that is how I chose to remember it, a fun ride.
I miss Willoughby very much, but am now content in Pennsylvania (it took a while) and realizing that the secret to adjustment is becoming one of them. I'm almost there, but I will never give up on the Cleveland Indians. I have always remembered this wise quote and it has gotten me through many difficult times: Success in life comes, not from holding a good hand, but in playing a poor hand well!
