Today's Featured Biography
John Oblak
I continued through to graduate school at Case Institute of Technology, now Case Western Reserve University, where I met my wife Darlene who was a nurse at University Hospitals – Buckeye flatlander meets mountain belle from Punxsutawney. We left Cleveland in late summer 1966, with our infant son Tom, for Pratt & Whitney in Connecticut. Sons Geoff and then Stephen were born there. We now have seven grandchildren. Our three sons, wives and grandchildren live nearby in the Greater Boston area.
Retirement came after some thirty years with United Technologies where I held technology-related positions for several of its operations. Darlene reentered the workforce by joining the staff of the state legislature when our youngest son Stephen reached high school. She continues today in the Town of Wethersfield registrar of voters office.
History has become a principal interest. I tell people here that I did a reverse migration from the Western Reserve to Connecticut. The founders of Stow came from within a few miles of Wethersfield. I teach seniors personal computing skills through the Wethersfield Computing Learning Center. Amateurish attempts at genealogy and photography take up some time. We enjoy a bit of travel. I also serve as an admissions alumni volunteer for my alma mater, if you have any grandchildren approaching college age.
