Les Nikodem
Les Nikodem;
After graduation from North HS in June 56 I, in August 56, enlisted and served with the U.S. Navy, with the brunt of the time served on active duty, at the Naval Air Station - North Island, San Diego, CA. I served in FAETUPAC as an Instructor in aviation electrical and electronics systems maintenance.
After my tour of active duty in 1959, I enrolled at The Ohio State University, in the college of Electrical Engineering. I did not finish school there, although I am a devoted Buckeye, as Columbus at that time had a significant recession, costing me the financial support required. In 1960, I returned to California and was employed in the aerospace industry primarily with AeroJet General Corp., and while there, I met and married my wife Carol, and her two daughters, Brenda and Darcie, in 1963.
I returned to Columbus in 1965 where I joined Battelle Memorial Institute, and where my third daughter, Beth, was born. I worked in engineering design. In 1972, while with Battelle, I was transferred back to California as the facility administrator at their Ocean Engineering Lab in Long Beach, until it closed in 1975 due to financial difficulties Battelle was having with the then Ohio Attorney General.
I turned down the opportunity to return to Columbus with Battelle; at the request of my two oldest daughters still in their High School years and they did not want to start over "again". During the hiatus from Battelle, for four years I served as the general manager of a small business in the computer graphics industry.
After our two HS kids Graduated, I received an invitation to return to Battelle, Columbus in 1979 where I served in project administration, business management, and retired as a contracting officer in 2003, after having served 34 years with Battelle.
In 1981 there were no simple software system solutions available for the management and control of Battellefs projects. My partner and I proceeded to develop a simple, but fully functional project management software application that would support the management and control of Battellefs projects without overloading their project budgets, but still be able to meet Government and Industry management and reporting requirements and specification criteria. In the late 1990Œs, my partner and I obtained the rights to this intellectual property from Battelle, and established AlNik Solutions LLC, incorporated in the state of Ohio in March 2003, for the purpose of commercializing the software, PMPlan, for use by others, outside of Battelle.
Since starting the business, I, along with my partner, have gone from having a fulfilling, and easy to manage retirement income generating activity, with simple solutions for managing company projects, to now having an ultimately powerful suite of PMPlan Enterprise project, portfolio and resource management tools that our customers, Battelle being one of, have encouraged us to Kraft. That said; our fulfilling, little part-time retirement adventure is no longer part-time, but really fulfilling! I am looking forward to completing my retirement, and getting in to more golf!
