Today's Featured Biography
wayne stiles
I went off to the military right after high school and was enlisted for 4 years. After that I went to college--as I had learned many of lifes lessons, the biggest was how to study. I boxed while I was in the military, and that taught me discipline.
When I got out I came home and did 2 years at OCC, where I played lacrosse, and boxed during the summers in the Syracuse Inner City--the place where I trained is off of the right side of 81 behind the big white building with lots of black windows??? I was definetly the minority there---but accepted. I knocked out my most of my general credits, as I still was trying to figure out what I wanted to do in life. I was accepted into Liberty University, Jerry Falwells school---and though they have a seminary---I am not a preacher.
My wife and I met at Liberty University, located in Lynchburg, Virginia. We dated for 2 1/2 years before being wed in her home state in Illinois. She earned her degree in Communications and I in Exercise Science.
We are blessed to have four amazing kids. They all love to spend time in the woods---or at the local pond fishing---I just like trying to keep the worms on the hooks--and the hooks out of my hands. My passion is turkey hunting---though bear hunting comes a close second. Anytime I can take one of my kids with me---is a great day in the woods.
I am currently a CPT in the US Army, currently spending a year in Iraq, working with 2 Iraqi Army Infantry Battalions. We have been stationed in North Carolina, Korea, Alaska,Qatar, Missouri, Iraq and now Tennessee. I hope to make Major in the next 3 years.
I advise my counterparts in the area of logistics and personnel issues, such as pay/promotions. Logisitics is the #1 reason that the Iraq Army is behind and will stay behind. They dont trust each other--and it is impossible to get parts---previous to our team--previous teams gave them whatever they needed to excel--which didnt help them. My boss loves to give them whatever they need--and then gets frustrated when they come asking for more. When we are moving throughout the AO (Area of Operations) I am the lead gunner---so I ride in the turret--keeping us safe when traveling--its really the only stressful part about my job. There is so much to look out for. I try to throw as much candy/stuffed animals to the kids==they are the future. I hope to get in with the local school systems and see what help that they need. The number one thing that you would notice if you were here is the trash that is everywhere--they throw everything out the windows--and the kids/animals play/eat in it.
I have 6-7 years before retirement, not sure what I will do next, would like to work in the outdoor industry. Our plan is to retire in TN if the Army will allow it.
My goal has always been to allow the military to take me around the world, and let them pay for my visits. This rang true in Alaska. Back in 1991 I worked for a hunting guide. My job was to pack out the animals on my back. I packed out 5 moose, 2 caribou and 1 dall sheep that season. I had the time of my life living out in the middle of nowhere---approx 45 min W of denali national park.
I vowed to get back to Alaska and I did in 2004. My first fall I harvested a black bear on a solo spot/stalk hunt. The next year I saved my money and was dropped off out in the Alaksan bush south of Fairbanks by myself where I harvested a bull moose---it took roughly 6 hours to butcher---and 4 -- 10 hour days to pack him back to camp---but I could say that I did it by myself. I have hunted northern Alaska for caribou and harvested a nice bull 2 years ago with a good friend. I also was able to score on 3 more black bears my last spring. I spent numerous hours fishing, and have landed all 4 types of salmon on different trips. I have caught a few halibut---but none as impressive as my sons who was 8 at the time---he landed a 80++ lb halibut--not a record--but the biggest on the boat that day. I have been to the famous Mcneil Bear Viewing Sanctuary---where I have been as close to a brown bear in the wild as you dare get--and have the pictures to prove it. The toughest thing I have ever done was to turn down another assignment back to Alaska---I felt like with future deployments---that getting my family closer to a support system would be better for them.
My faith is in God, and what his son did on the cross, I know there are numerous relgions/faiths/beliefs----but I stick to what Jesus Christ did on the Cross---because no other faith has someone dying for them. He was either the real deal or he wasnt---I challenge you to find out which he was.
John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whoesever believeth on him should not perish but have everlasting life"

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
